TALES AND SENTENCES
Nora Gruber, an American filmmaker living in Portland, is one of the world’s leading specialists in what the justice system calls “sentencing films”. Hired by convicted felons or their lawyers, Nora travels the U.S. trying to tell their unique stories, as well as the context that led them to commit their crimes. Robbery, drug trafficking, embezzlement – every character in Nora’s films has pleaded guilty and been convicted. Her films are intended to be seen by one and only viewer: the judge.
The film offers a portrait of an ailing justice system, in an America where money is often the main thing, and where the truth is worth as much as the art of telling a good story.
