THE LADIES
OF SAINT-CÉSAIRE
In the 1970s, the skeleton of a Neanderthal woman named Pierrette was discovered at Saint-Césaire in the Charente-Maritime department (France). In the same 36,000-year-old archaeological layer, traces of homo sapiens life were discovered. So it’s not impossible that Lady Sapiens and Pierrette met there, and exchanged know-how…
The ladies of Saint-Césaire explores the possibilities of this encounter, drawing on the combined work of Isabelle Crèvecœur, in charge of excavations at the Saint-Césaire site, and prehistorian Sophie Archambault de Beaune (Université Lyon 3), scientific advisor to the Lady Sapiens project as a whole.
The film is on permanent display at the Saint-Césaire Paleosite (Charente-Maritime).
